As one who’s living the #undocuhustle there are two key ways to start earning income: by either a) working as an independent contract, or b) starting your own business. Which of these methods is right for you depends on where you are in life, what you want to do, and how you’d like to grow. So what’s the difference between being a business owner and an independent contractor?
Don’t worry if you want to switch later on. You can always start over.
As an independent contractor, you are self-employed and provide a specific service on an hourly or per-project basis. You could be an actor, a tutor, a painter–the possibilities are endless. You aren’t anyone’s employee, so you’re responsible for all losses, but all the income is yours to keep.
Get StartedAs a business owner, you organize and run one or more businesses. You own it. You launch it. You pay yourself a salary. You have more protection this way since the business is liable for losses and debts, and you either pay yourself a salary or you draw a percentage of the profits.
